Thursday, January 1, 1942 
New Year's Day

A new year! As it was a holiday Tracy worked on Grace's car.
Service meeting tonight.

Friday, January 2, 1942
Out in service work - our car load, included Rodie which pleased him very much. 
Hazel and Tracy went out tonight.

Saturday, January 3, 1942
Out in service work - our car load - Grace, Mabel, Andrew and I. Andrew And I rode in to Broadway and Manchester and shopped. Had to wait a half hour for our bus. 
We ran in to Grace where we transfered.

Sunday, January 4, 1942
Andrew went in Grace's car load which also included Barbara and Andrew brought her home, then we all went to meeting tonight.
Andrew and Barbara read several times; Roger once. 
The Tower study was very good.

Monday, January 5, 1942
Out in the service work. Put in 4:30 hours.
It was a day of back calls. 
Awfully tired tonight.
Haven't seen Ted since New Year day.
This is Grace's birthday.

Tuesday, January 6, 1942
3:30 Hours in service work today - more back calls.
Grace received a birthday card from Homer from Sacramento Calif - surely we'll see him soon.
Andrew and Roger each got 8 Tower questions tonight.

Wednesday, January 7, 1942
Stayed home; Hazel went down to consult her lawyer as her accident trial comes up the 20th.
I cleaned the back yard and it looks nice.
I called Janice and we walked down to Moneta and shopped.
Vonie is 10 years old today.

Thursday, January 8, 1942
We heard a lot of interesting things at service meeting tonight.
I cleaned the garage much to the kiddies delight, (they were supposed to do it) as well as Tracy's.
We heard Ted is in San Diego.
Wonder if he is coming back.

Friday, January 9, 1942
A busy day - Put in 2: hours in service work this morning, went in to the folks for lunch, washed and cut Mother's hair then when Vonie came from school we, she, Sally and I - went shopping for Vonie's birthday. Got her dishes cooking set etc. Vonie and Grace made ginger - bread tonight.

Saturday, January 10, 1942
Worked in the yard all day.
11 P.M. Rather shocked to hear over radio Bro. Rutherford is dead. Jack and Clede came over when they heard the 10: P.M. news.

Sunday, January 11, 1942
Andrew and Barbara worked in Grace's car load today.
Andrew stayed out to Barbara's.
Awfully good meeting. I recognized a few of the boys questions.
Tracy recd. a puzzling telegram from Forney about 10:30 P.M.

Monday, January 12, 1942
4 hours in service today. 
Was terribly tired today. 
Went to the Manchester theatre tonight - Tracy, Hazel, the kiddies and I.

Tuesday, January 13, 1942
Went shopping down in Manchester and Vermont district today.
Had dinner with the folks then Mabel, Grace, and I went to the Congress, saw a good show.

Tried to catch up with "my" work, but I'll have to stay home tomorrow and finish.
Hazel went out tonight.

Stayed home today. Catalogued my territory. Busy all day. Service meeting tonight.

Friday, January 16, 1942
4 hours service work today.

Saturday, January 17, 1942
Andrew got in 5 hours today and placed a book and bklt.
I wish I could work with hime Saturdays.

Sunday, January 18, 1942
Studied the lesson today and it is very interesting.

Out in service work. Mailed Homer a birthday card from Hermosa Beach.

Tuesday, January 20, 1942
Homer's birthday!
The hearing on the accident trial of Hazel's and Andrew's will be today.

Wednesday, January 21, 1942
Hazel was so tired she couldn't sleep last night. Don't know how it will be decided yet. She went skating tonight.
Tracy, kids and myself drove over to the folks, also to look at bikes for the kids.

Thursday, January 22, 1942
Didn't go out in the work - was too tired, also headache I can't seem to get rid of.

Friday, January 23, 1942
Out in service work all day - went in to folks, then Mother, Mabel, Grace and i went to a show.
Janice says they have their bikes.

Saturday, January 24, 1942
The kids got their bikes yesterday and are they happy! Andrew's is tan and maroon, Roger's light blue + white, Janice's red + white. Andrew went in Grace's car witnessing, then Vonie stayed here when they came back.
Hazel was down town all day.

Sunday, January 25, 1942
Very fogy all day - almost a rain. Tracy, Hazel and kids drove out to look at farms. Jack called for Vonie to go out in w. work.
Because of colds Roger and Janice couldn't go to meeting tonight so Hazel stayed home too.

Monday, January 26, 1942
Couldn't go out in w. work today, Grace had to have her car worked on. 
I went home with her then Hazel picked us up at 3:30 and Jimmie came out and rode the kids bikes.
Hazel, Andrew, Roger, Grace and I went to the show.

Tuesday, January 27, 1942
Out in w. work 3 hrs.; worked in my territory.

Wednesday, January 28, 1942
Janice has pink eye or something like it. I stayed with her. Hazel went to town, got her a black suit, black patent pumps, yellow blouse, slacks, brown, and black and brown shoes.

Thursday, January 29, 1942
Grace didn't call for me today; she had car trouble.
Only Tracy, Andrew and I went to meeting as Janice and Roger are sick. Tracy had a headache and cold.

Friday, January 30, 1942
Got in 4 hours today. As Grace had a back call I came home at about 7: P.M
Janice is quite sick.

Saturday, January 31, 1942
I was in Grace's car - load today and especially enjoyed working with Andrew. 
We came in at 2: P.M. as Hazel had asked us to. Vonie was also in our car. She stayed here until Jack, Clede, and kiddies came for her about 8:, Jack brought his new recordings for me to play.

Sunday, February 1, 1942
A busy day!
We drove out looking for ranches.
Janice seemed to enjoy the ride. We had to rush dinner then Tracy, kids and I went to W.T. study

Monday, February 2, 1942
I caught the 12:20 bus and went in to the folks place, then rode out with Grace as she went on her back call. I did mag. street work and my ankles swelled badly. Mrs. M. wasn't home so I left a note I could play for her tomorrow.
Janice was in bed all day.
I played records tonight - rest went to show.

Tuesday, February 3, 1942
Chet came over this morning, Hazel was gone so I had to stay here with Janice. She is still quite sick. Grace called at 1:30 for me and I played "Children" to Mrs. M. Went home with Grace and went to a show with Grace, Jack and Clede. They drove me home.

Wednesday, February 4, 1942
Grace and I drove over to Chet's place - Long Beach.
Hazel was ready to go out when I got home at 11: A.M.
Janice is much better. Roger is still hoarse. Put up curtains at Janice's windows.

Thursday, February 5, 1942
Nothing interesting today, washed some, stayed with Janice. To night service meeting.

Friday, February 6, 1942
Had my back call with Mrs. M. and Mr. M; was there. She is surely sweet.
Tracy and Hazel left last night for a little trip some where; Mabel is staying with us.

Saturday, February 7, 1942
Played cards until 10: P.M. Mabel, kiddies, and I.
Tracy called from Oakland last night to learn if all was Okay.

Sunday, February 8, 1942
Tracy and Hazel came home to night but too late for meeting. Grace called for Mabel and Andrew. They brought Janice some new sport shoes.

Monday, February 9, 1942
Roger was sick this A.M. and stayed home from school.

Tuesday, February 10, 1942
4 Hrs. in service today. "Hazel $7.50"
Today is my birthday.
Ralph Porterfield came over and they - Tracy, Hazel and Ralph went over to see Jack.
Hazel gave me box of candy.
Andrew painted me two coat hangers - red.

Wednesday, February 11, 1942
Worked in the yard today. It was just like spring.
Today is Clede's birthday.
Recd. birthday card from Homer from San Francisco.

Thursday, February 12, 1942
Didn't feel good so stayed home with Roger and Janice.
Tracy, Hazel and Andrew went to meeting, then bowling afterward.

Friday, February 13, 1942
Andrew and I went shopping, got a red patent purse for Andrew to give Barbara. 
Hazel had cooked a turkey which was too good since I want to loose weight.

Saturday, February 14, 1942
Kiddies and I went to the show - Tracy and Hazel picked us up, they spent the eve - at the folks place.
Andrew worked in Grace's car - load and they left the gift with May. Roger also worked with them today.

Sunday, February 15, 1942
Got W.T questions 25 of them and went to meeting tonight.
Mae said Barbara was tickled pink, and blushed when the nurse asked questions.

Monday, February 16, 1942
Went shopping today and to a show tonight.

Tuesday, February 17, 1942
Shopped down town and got a slack suit.
It's dark blue and I like it.
Went to a show with Grace then later they drove me out.

Wednesday, February 18, 1942
Hazel went skating tonight and Tracy took Andrew and Roger bowling.

Thursday, February 19, 1942
Stayed home from meeting tonight.
Roger and Janice both sick. Hazel went to take care of magazines etc. 
I don't feel good any how.

Friday, February 20, 1942
Was ready and waiting to go out with Grace but she was held up on employment so stayed home all day and didn't get much of any thing done.

Tiresome day!
Hazel shopped down town and as it rained hard I had to keep all kids in side.

Washington's Birthday

Went to El Monte to look at a couple of places but they didn't suit.
Barbara was at meeting to night much to Andrews surprise. She is still far from all right.

Monday, February 23, 1942
Janice is hoarse and is home from school.
I was sick all night and until about 3: P.M.

Tuesday, February 24, 1942
Out in the work - Back calls but couldn't find any one at home.
Went in to the folks and to a show with Grace.

Wednesday, February 25, 1942
Saw war really in action last night, or rather this A.M about 2:30 to 4:30 - search lights and guns in action, all kinds of rumors; don't know what really did happen.

Ironed and put up kitchen curtains. Service meeting tonight.

Friday, February 27, 1932
Out in G's car 4 hours.
Rustie got hit by a machine.

Saturday, February 28, 1942
Andrew went out with Grace and Vonie. I stayed with Janice and Roger - Hazel went to town. She got Tracy an electric razer and it didn't suit so she'll take it back Mon.

Tracy, Andrew, Roger and Janice went out in the w. work.
W.T. study tonight.

Monday, March 2, 1942
Hazel went to town.
I meant to wash my hair but did other things instead. Am taking a cold, and D! my knee.

Tuesday, March 3, 1942
Grace and I went to town "shopping", stayed in to the folks and Mabel and I went to a show which I enjoyed very much.
Grace called and drove me home late.

Wednesday, March 4, 1942
Hazel drove me in the truck to the folks then she came back to Moneta for a permanent. Grace and I drove to Sears and looked at desks etc., then Grace drove me out here.
I got here at 1:30 so met Janice at school.

Thursday, March 5, 1942
Back called this afternoon - meeting tonight.
Got me a writing desk today and will get it Saturday - I mean it will be delivered then.

Friday, March 6, 1942
Out in the work nearly all day; back call tonight.
G. and I looked at bicycles and have decided to get one.
Tracy and Hazel gone out tonight.

Saturday, March 7, 1942
Andrew out in w. w. with Grace and Vonie.
Hazel and Tracy left early for the bowling contest.
While we were eating dinner Grace, Clede and kiddies came over.

Sunday, March 8, 1942
Tracy, Roger and Janice were out in w.w.
Ivana and Forney came in.
Andrew cycled out to Barbara's today, 40 min. going and the same coming.

Monday, March 9, 1942
Chet came over but things were not to my liking so will come back tomorrow.

Hazel, kiddies, and I went to a show - Tracy had a meeting.

Tuesday, March 10, 1942
Grace, Ivana and I went out w. w. then we got our bikes. Tracy picked them up for us.
Forney and Ivana came over for dinner.
I can ride a little - not bad, even surprised myself.

Wednesday, March 11, 1942
Roger had his bicycle stollen.
Dinner was late and I'm so tired I don't know if I'm going or coming.
Hazel was out.

Thursday, March 12, 1942
They had Roger's bicycle at the police station this evening - then he - Roger, sprained his ankle and couldn't go to meeting so Hazel stayed home too.

Friday, March 13, 1942
A busy day! Homer came home today!!
Ralph, Hazel and I catalogued territory, then Grace and I had a back call tonight.

Shocked at Homer's appearance. He has been sick since Sept.

Saturday, March 14, 1942
Rained most all day. Took kiddies to matinee. Went by the folks and got Jimmie too.
Homer looks bad - awfully worried about him.
So glad to have him home.

Tracy, Hazel and kiddies catalogued territory then went to the beach. 
I stayed home.

Monday, March 16, 1942
Went in to the folks, then Tracy and Hazel picked me up as they came from the show. Mabel went with them and won two passes. Homer is even worse than we thought, believe he has T. B.

Tuesday, March 17, 1942
Spent most of the day at the folks place today.

Wednesday, March 18, 1942
Hazel and I drove out to the beach and catalogued territory, then Hazel went out tonight and I got dinner.
Tracy and Grace took Homer to the doctor for an examination and while he still has to have an Xray exam, etc., they say it is certain he has a spot in one lung.

Thursday, March 19, 1942
Grace and Ivana drove Homer down for his Xray exams.
Service meeting tonight.
Ran down to make my watch payment and got a pair of black suede oxfords. I like them.

Friday, March 20, 1942
Out with Grace and Ivana in W. W, could not accomplish any back calls. Tracy got Homer a tent but it doesn't seem to be just the thing.
I got a pair of white oxfords especially good for the bicycle.

Saturday, March 21, 1942
Andrew went out with Grace, Ivana, Mabel, and Vonie in W. W., then I took Andrew, Barbara, Vonie, Roger, Jimmie, and Janice to the matinee.
Hazel and Tracy got Homer another tent - hope this one suits and they can take back the other one. I've had a headache all day.

Busy today - Ralph P. out all day - Had early dinner, then meeting.

I have quite a cold and feel rotten.
Went to show tonight - Hazel, kiddies, Tracy and me.

Tuesday, March 24, 1942
Out all day and into the folks. Tracy stopped by and they put up the tent for Homer.
He is very pleased and I think its going to be good. 
Homer was awfully tired.

Wednesday, March 25, 1942
Hazel got her teeth today and they look really good. She went out to dinner with M. + V. but could only have coffee and came home early.

Thursday, March 26, 1942
Worked in yard most all day, looks awfully nice.
Went to meeting and we studied the memorial article.

Friday, March 27, 1942
Out in the work all day with G. and Ivana; 2 back calls. Went into the folks and Homer looks much better.
He likes it swell out in the tent and said he wouldn't move back in side if he could.

Saturday, March 28, 1942
Grace and Ivana called for Andrew. Roger rode off on his byke - Rustie following and he had not come home hours later.
When Andrew came home he said they saw him down at the beach - Rodie admited it and I said I wouldn't tell if he'd promise not to do it again.

Sunday, March 29, 1942
Tracy, Hazel, and kiddies went to the beach and all got sun tans or almost burns in some places. All had a good time. I stayed home, did up the work and studied W. T.
W. T. Study tonight.

Monday, March 30, 1942
Kiddies are on a vacation, this week, from school.

Tuesday, March 31, 1942
Hazel took Andrew bowling and Roger went to the shop with Tracy. I went out in the work with Grace. Memorial is tonight.
Mrs. M. and husband came to Memorial tonight - very glad!
Forney served the emblems, Tracyand Ivana did not partake.
Andrew and I set the banty.

Wednesday, April 1, 1942
Hazel had promised to take the kiddies to a down town show so I went with them to the Orphiem; real good sho. 
Hazel went out last night. I got dinner.
Rusty got in to the nest destroyed some eggs and succeeded in scaring the banty from the nest. Drat him!!

Thursday, April 2, 1942
Today Andrew went with Tracy to the shop.
I went out on a back call but the lady was gone. Got in 3 hours any way.
Service meeting tonight.

Friday, April 3, 1942
Worked with Grace and Ivana today 3 Hrs. They brought Jimmie and Sally. 
Went into the folks. Homer looks better. 
Hazel and kiddies including Vonie and Barbara went to the beach. Grace goes to work at the shop tomorrow so I had her drive me home early; She, Vona and I went shopping in the rain. Clede is working in F's Market.

Easter Sunday

Andrew waited for Grace to pick him up but she didn't; Roger and Janice went with Tracy and Hazel and got in 1:30 Hrs.

Busy all day. Did a big wash, also washed my hair.

Worked 5:30 Hrs. today - then went into the folks but had to come home early as Grace has to get up early and so early to bed.
Homer looks so much better. Took all kiddies to the store.

Went out in night bklt. work, really fun.

Went with Ivana and Mabel in w. w. but had to go in at noon to take Mabel and we came through the Manchester Vermont Broadway shopping district and at Figuero and Golden Sts. She ran through a stop signal and got a ticket.
Homer is looking good.

Kiddies and I went to circus. Hazel and Tracy went out tonight and didn't get in until 1:30 A. M.

Everybody too tired to go out in w. w. today expecting Andrew and he went with Grace.

Went to Manchester Theater tonight. We went late and got out at 11:30. Grace and Ivana went to the Balboa

Tuesday, April 14, 1942
Went in to the folks, then down on Manchester and Broadway to change some shoes. Got a new pair of house slippers. 
It was raining so we couldn't go out in the work.
Homer seems to be feeling better. I got him some ice cream. I had to come home early as Grace is tired and she drives me home.

Worked with bklts. again to night.
Hazel and Tracy drove over to the shop.

Friday, April 17, 1942
Went down town; had a tiresome day. I was so tired and sleepy when I visited Homer I felt dum. 
Got my brown oxfords and a $1.00 purse.

Sunday, April 19, 1942
Hazel and I cleaned the house - I did the breakfast room and it looks keen but I was too tired to enjoy W. T. Study and so no more Sunday cleaning for me.

Monday, April 20, 1942
Hazel was going to play on the womans bowling league but since it would be from 5:30 to 7: P. M. she declined. We all went to the Manchester theatre tonight.

Tuesday, April 21, 1942
Rainy day! I went out with Ivana W. W. and got in 6 1/2 hrs. Homer looks good. The folks have baby bird that the found almost dead. It's doing fine with all their care.

Wednesday, April 22, 1942
My eyes are bothering me a lot. I know I should cut out so many cold drinks.
Busy to day as usual.

Service meeting. I cleaned the back yard and feel tired.

Friday, April 24, 1942
Out in W. W. 7 hours with Ivana, then went in to the folks and Grace and I took in a show.
I placed a book.

Busy all day.
Hazel and Tracy went out to night.

W. T. Study.

Monday, April 27, 1942
Didn't go to the show tonight. Hazel bowled in some league and it was too late. They went however.
Went out this A. M. to Hermosa with Ivana and Forney to the court hearing of Sam; trial set for Wed. May 20 - 10: A. M.

Tuesday, April 28, 1942
An awful day - windy and cold but Ivana and I worked and finished my territory, then I went into the folks. Grace got three new records.
She and I went down to the Manchester district and took Jimmie and Vonie with us.
Sally has the mumps. Ivana came out here for dinner and to see Tracy.

Wednesday, April 29, 1942
Went out night booklet work but it was so cold and windy we came in as Tracy had the kiddies. Grace and Ivana came late so they decided to stay. We took Sam home.
Tracy and Hazel are out bowling now.

Service meeting.

Friday, May 1, 1942
Put in 6:30 Hrs. with Vona. At first it was misting rain, then it turned windy and I could almost feel the freckles coming.
I didn't go in to the folks, since Sally and Judy both have mumps I'd better stay away for a while.
Hazel $7.50.

Saturday, May 2, 1942
Audrey was out with Ivana so was Roger for 3: hours, then they brought Barbara back, and they Janice and I went to the Manchester Theatre matinee. Hazel and Beryl picked us up.

Sunday, May 3, 1942
Tracy worked at shop all day. Chuck took Tower study tonight - real good. Hazel and Janice are both sick with colds. 
Andrew and Roger went to the shop with Tracy this A. M. then when Hazel took their lunch Andrew came back and went on a back call with Ivana.

Monday, May 4, 1942
Didn't go to the show tonight as Hazel is bowling a match game or something.
Janice missed school today and has vomited and been in bed all day.

Tuesday, May 5, 1942
Chet had written that he would be over so he picked me up here and we went over to the folks. Chet was drinking beer as usual. The folks are awfully busy. I spent a good deal of time with Homer. Tracy stopped for a little while - Ralph was with him. Grace and Ivana brought me home. Missed going in W. Work.

Wednesday, May 6, 1942
Andrew was the only one of this family that went out in booklet work tonight. Tracy and Hazel were going, but Tracy was too tired and sleepy.

Thursday, May 7, 1942
I went in to the folks and washed Mother's hair, cleaned my coat and did some stitching on my slack suit. 
Service meeting tonight - Mother was there.

Friday, May 8, 1942
Paid on bike today then used my transfer and went on down town looking for a pair of slacks. I must get a pair soon

Saturday, May 9, 1942
Busy today and tired tonight. Tracy and Hazel are out - went to the Ice Capades.

Sunday, May 10, 1942
Andrew missed going out in the work today and did not go to Barbara's either. Ivana said Barbara was very disappointed.

Felt rotten all day.
Went to the show, Manchester and saw King's Row. Grace and Ivana were there and came with us as far as their place. We got home 11:30 P. M.
Tracy was asleep.

Tuesday, May 12, 1942
Was out all day in W. W. with Ivana; I got in 5:30 hrs.
It was awfully windy and disagreable and tonight was cold.
I was out with Homer most all evening, then Mother and Grace brought me home.

Wednesday, May 13, 1942
Got dinner for Tracy and the kids - Hazel went skating then bowling. Tracy and Andrew went out with booklets, then Tracy met Hazel and party. 
Roger is sick.

Service meeting.

Friday, May 15, 1942
Worked W. W. with Ivana and got in 4 hours.
Homer is so much better.
I came out too late for Tracy and Hazel to go out.

Saturday, May 16, 1942
Hazel and Tracy were out tonight.
I got dinner for the kiddies and they built a pen for the hen and chicks.
Awfully tired tonight.

Sunday, May 17, 1942
W. T. study tonight.
Andrew's hen is hatching. He Andrew, rode out to Barbara's today on his bike.

Monday, May 18, 1942
Ethel stayed to dinner and went to the show with us. We saw Mabel, Grace and Ivana there.
Andrew's hen hatched all six chickens and they are so cute.

Tuesday, May 19, 1942
Didn't go out in the work as I had planned to go down town but as Hazel went I sent by her, but Ivana had planned something else so I stayed at the folks. 
It was terribly hot.

Wednesday, May 20, 1942
Hazel stayed all night with her friend Virginia and as Tracy didn't come home either there were only the kiddies and me for dinner.
Sam's trial this A. M. very unfair - he was found guilty.

Thursday, May 21, 1942
Service meeting tonight.
Have a terribly sore throat, hardly slept last night.

Friday, May 22, 1942
Was really sick today but I went out with Ivana and got in 4:40 hours. I had a cup of coffee for breakfast, a pot of tea for lunch, but I ate dinner - disregarding desert.

Saturday, May 23, 1942
Feel terrible! My throat is almost swelling shut; I should be in bed. Took care of kiddies tonight, as Tracy and Hazel went out.

Sunday, May 24, 1942
Tracy worked at shop all day and could not take W. T. study tonight. We - Hazel, kiddies, and myself were late, then got caught in the black - out coming home; then Hazel drove on over to the shop.

Monday May 25, 1942
Didn't go to show tonight. Walked over and got check cashed and got P. C. olive oil and took back C. ointment.
Terribly tired to night and still have a bad throat.
Cashed Hazel's check $15.00

Tuesday, May 26, 1942
Was only out 3:20 Hrs. today.
Still feel bad.
Tracy and Hazel stopped to see Homer and I came home with them.

Wednesday, May 27, 1942
Hazel went skating tonight and I got dinner for the kiddies and I.

Chet was over to the folks - he and Mabel went down town to sign papers for Grace's birth sertificate. I guess it is all fixed up now.
He came out here later, but I was gone. Tracy called for me about 6:30 and about 7:30 he and Hazel left for the mountains to stay a couple of days. Hope Tracy rests.

Memorial Day

Ivana took all the kiddies out today, then when they came back I kept all the kiddies here - for lunch, dinner and until about 9: P. M. when Grace and Ivana called for them. I believe they all had a dandy time. Jimmie was crazy to ride the bikes.

Tracy and Hazel got back about 2:30 P. M. and in time to bathe and rest before meeting.
My cold is still very bad and I'm so tired.

Out in the W. W. with Ivana and when we stood with the magazines in Hermosa Beach, that Jack's liquor store guy bumed down. He couldn't stay in his store but had to stand out and glare at us.

Sam's trial! Grace and Ivana picked me up. Tracy was there of course and Don and Beryl came with him. 
It was put off until next Wed.
Hazel didn't go.

Ivana came early and I rushed and we went out to Torrence where we made application for defence work.

Went out to Hermosa Beach to Sam's trial. It was transfered to Gardena - date not set.
Kiddies and I went to the Gardena show. 
Cashed $10.00 check - Hazel.
Sent bicycle payment by Grace. Grace got her self a cotton crape suit.

Tracy and Hazel went to the show to night. Tracy won two passes.
I ironed and ironed and ironed.

Friday, June 12, 1942
Out in the work 7 hours and am I tired!, had dinner at the folks they listened to "Who done it" on radio, out in Homer's tent. Grace, Ivana and Mother drove me home. Kiddies were not asleep yet.

The last day Ivana can take the kiddies out - that is Saturday, for a while as she starts to work Monday.
Tracy and Hazel went out to night; I kept kiddies.

Tracy and Hazel went out in the work and while they were out Ethel came to wash her hair, and stayed to dinner. We had to rush to meeting. Hazel didn't go.
Andrew rode his bike out to Barbaras and had to ride hard coming home.

Went to L. A. down town and left my watch to be regulated, then on out to the folks.

Tracy and Hazel drove down to see Homer and the folks, then to the veg. market where Clede works.

Tracy and Hazel went to the show tonight.
I can't get seem to find time to study - it's so late by the time I get my work done and the kiddies in bed.

Went down town L. A. and got my watch and made final payment, so it's mine now. 
Went to the folks Tracy and Hazel picked me up tonight.
Clede was laid off.
We brought Jim and Vonie to stay all night.

I'm so tired I can't see straight. 
The kiddies all had a swell time.
Clede came after them, drove their car and brought Sally and Judy, also her collection of records and played them. 
She left about 9: o'clock.

Busy day!
Ethel came over and stayed to dinner and we were in a big rush again, in fact were a few minutes late.
Not any of Marie's family were there.

Monday, June 22, 1942
Hazel and Ethel put up cherries all day. Tonight we all went to Manchester show. Mabel, Grace and Ivana were there.

Clede drove her car and took me out in W. W., we got in 6 hours.
Went in to the folks and Homer is looking fine.

Only a few more days of school and the kiddies are all hepped about it.

Hazel came home quite early - Tracy isn't home yet. Clede came and drove us to the show.

Got away late accomplished very little - rode with Clede to pick up Jack and applied for work at Hart's Bottling Co. no luck.
Tracy got home about 5 A. M.

Hazel was gone all day and the kids were terrible - we fought and I called Tracy which made them mad at me.
Terribly tired to night - head - ache!
G.R. phoned about convention.

Went to Hawthorne to sign statement for Mother's pention.
Clede picked me up then. I went back with her and in the eve went to San Pedro in magazine work.

Went in to the folks again, to see the southside papers and to run down a few things - no luck so far
I've been looking for rooms. I don't know where I'll have to go to get them as I've combed the neighborhood around there.

I'm takineye exercises - have not missed for several days.
I'm also taking a few floor dips and sit - ups, I'll add more later.

Service meeting and W. T. study.
All of Marie's family were there.
Andrew waited all morning for Grace to pick him up.
Ivana picked him up for the "Ci" study about 1:20 P. M. - no study so they came back.

Hazel, Andrew, and Roger went down town today and got Andrew a new sport coat and pants, and Roger new pants. Janice and I stayed home and Janice pestered me changing clothes all day. We all went to the show tonight - bum show! saw Grace, Mabel, and Ivana there.

Out room hunting. We got home late last night, and I got to bed at 1: A. M. after doing dishes so I got a late start and it was so hot I nearly wilted - no luck.

Stayed home to keep kiddies and Chet came over. I wish he hadn't. We quarreled and I guess I can look for no help from him.

Mr. Nelson opened his swimming pool today and as Andrew and Roger had helped him they were invited to swim, so Andrew went out with Grace, but missed the "Ci" study
Went to service meeting and W. T. study - missed Marie's family as they have transfered to Torrence CO.

Hazel went down town today and we did not go to the show. They took Barbara home early - they didn't go to swim - Nelson didn't open the pool until 5 P. M.
Roger went in.

Got up early to ride with Tracy but as Hazel did too I stayed until she got back.
Didn't go out in booklet work as planned.

Clede called and took me out in the work. Then tonight Mabel, Grace and I stood an hour in mag. work. Saw Danny Read and he has gotten heavier and not bad looking - very nice acting. Also another young fellow J. W. stepped up and talked.

Andrew is out to Barbara's and I miss him.

Am awfully tired - worked in the yard at the folks and it was hot. Grace and I went to a good show -

Stayed home - the kiddies were at Nelsons swimmimg pool all day.
Tracy, Hazel and kiddies went to L. B. swimming pool last night and Tracy says Andrew can swim about 20 feet. Both he and Roger can dive good. Went to the Gardena Theatre and thought we were followed coming home.

Worked in the yard at folks and it was terribly hot. I washed my hair, Grace cut it for me, then I curled it and just got it done then Tracy brought Mother and Mabel home and picked me up. They had a turkey dinner over at Tracy's and he brought over some to Homer.

Felt rotton so didn't do much, room hunted after it got cooler about 4: o'clock.

Special Pioneers called to see Tracy - they are to take over Redondo Beach. Andrew rode out to Barbara's early this A. M., got home about 6: P. M.

The folks are anxious to go to Hemmit and I guess Tracy and family , with Mabel and Mother will drive over there Tuesday.

Went out to Hermosa Beach with Grace, Ivana and Mabel. I delivered the W. T. to Mrs. Missall.
We shopped around in Redondo Beach, then I went on in to the folks.

Tracy and family picked up Mabel and Mother and drove to Hemmit. i rode as far as the folks and from there I hunted for rooms and tramped so much I have a blister on top of my big toe.

Went to Sam's trial which had been transfered to Gardena and really saw action. Went in to the folks and told each one about the trial. Marie and Bob came over and they drove me home.

I stayed and took care of the kiddies. They went swimming in Mr. Nelson's pool. 
I did my wash and other things.

Was gone all day. I'm tired tonight. Haven't answered Chet's note - I don't know what I want to say.

Saturday, August 1, 1942
Staid home - kiddies didn't swim but were very little trouble. 
I guess Ethel will move her trailor over tomorrow. Hazel was down town all day, got Janice a blue sweater and slip.

Sunday, August 2, 1942
Grace called for me early 7: A. M. and they we - she, Ivana, Mother, and Mabel drove in to the desert - to Littlerock. The ride was swell but proved what I already knew - it would be foolish to try and move out there. I think Homer is doing all right.

Staid with kiddies again - Hazel worked at the office in Toni's place. Tracy was in court all day. He was tired tonight, but had to drive to Glendale and around trying to locate a witness.
Hazel, kiddies, Ethel and I went to the Manchester and saw a good show.

Terribly tiresome day, one foot is still sore and I tramped all over. Jack and Clede Brought me home.

Wednesday, August 5, 1942
Sam's trial was postponed until Aug. !7. I went on in with Grace and came out with Tracy as he came from work. Mabel, Jim, Vonie and Sally came too, and we all drove to Redondo Beach and stood with the magazines, after making a few back calls. Hazel had chicken tonight.

Went to San Pedro to Jack's meeting tonight, then he and Jim left me off home.

Another tiresome day - Clede brought me home.

Andrew went with Grace W. W. Roger and Janice went in swimming. I did my wash as usual and was busy all day.

Grace and Ivana took all the kiddies to the beach. It showered but not much out here.

Went with Ethel on back call, then with she and Hazel to the show.
Tracy worked all night and Hazel stayed down there - both slept today.

Grace and I paid the last on our bikes, then shopped around Inglewood. I was going to take the 7:47 P. M.
bus for Gardena but Clede and Jack wanted me to go to the show with them, and so I did and so they brought me home.

Andrew rode out to Barbara's today and Grace picked them up for mag. street work.
Roger and Janice went swimming in Mr. Nelson's pool. Hazel was gone shopping all day, then she and Tracy went out tonight.
The nurse was out to see Homer. She advised him to eat more meat.

The service meeting was changed back to Thursday evening. I like it better.

Tracy left for New York N. Y. at noon.
Went on a back call with Ethel but they couldn't have it, then me and Hazel and kiddies went to the Manchester Theatre - good show.

Tuesday, August 18, 1942
Went in to the folks and as Mabel and Clede said they are going to try to locate something or any thing I rather put off taking housekeeping rooms around the "Shrine".
Grace, Mabel, and Mother brought me home.
Ethel was glad to see me as she was having a time with the kids.

Stayed with kiddies today and tonight got dinner.
Hazel went out to dinner.
Wonder if Mabel and Clede found a house.

Thursday, August 20, 1942
Roger is sick with quite a fever. Ethel is also sick having a time with her back and arms etc.
Hazel drove Andrew, Janice and I to meeting tonight.

Well I found a housekeeping room and will move Sunday.

Saturday, August 22, 1942
Hazel was gone all day, then she went bowling with Virginia and Mattie tonight. Roger has a fever and had quite a bad spell of indigestion. I tried to get Hazel over phone. She called later but Roger was asleep then.
Ethel took a treatment and feels better.
Andrew went out to Barbaras and they went to a show.

Jack and Grace moved me, then I went back with Grace and went to the W. T. Study.
Vonie came back with me and stayed all night.

Monday, August 24, 1942
Vonie and I got our breakfast, then washed and cleaned the closet for my clothes, and then washed all dishes, then we went out home, went to a show with Grace and Ivana and Vonie came home with me again. Sally is sick.
Vonie and I watched the skating at the Shrine.

Tuesday, August 25, 1942
Vonie and I had breakfast at 11:30, lunch at 4:00 and then went out to the folks.
I got all my boxes unpacked and about every thing taken care of. Watched the eclipse of the moon tonight.

Wednesday, August 26, 1942
Went out to the folks and washed living room curtains and cleaned the living and dining rooms good - washed windows etc.
Took Vonie and Jimmie skating.
Sally is sick.

Thursday, August 27, 1942
Ironed curtains at the folks, then to service meeting, then finished the curtains and got home very late.

Friday, August 28, 1942
Went out to the folks, washed kitchen curtains, then brought Vonie and him back to skate at the "Shrine".
They had a fine time.

Saturday, August 29, 1942
Out to the folks and ironed Kitchen curtains and cleaned kitchen.
Tracy got home yesterday at 3: P. M.
Sally was in bed nearly all day.

Sunday, August 30, 1942
W. T. Study tonight. Tracy and family were all there.
Was out to the folks most all day.
Jimmy is sick.

Went to the Perless Laundry to apply for a switch board job and since it was taken I applied for other work and got it - I go on tomorrow at 8: A. M. Went to the show with Grace and Ivana home late.

8: hours again today and if possible I'm even more tired.

8 hours today and I only had time to fix a can of soup then out to the folks and to service meeting. Hazel is in San Francisco but the kiddies were there with Tracy.

I'm nearly through the week, eight hours again.

Saturday, September 5, 1942
Seven and a half hours today.
I worked until 11:20 cataloqueing territory to hand in to the co. I must get up early tomorrow morning too.

Sunday, September 6, 1942
Not a day of rest! I got up at the usual time 6:20 and out to the folks and to Hermosa Beach at 9: then shopped for 15 min. then in to the 403 terr. for the last time - or for a while any way as special pioneers have taken it over. Then washed all after noon, home late.

Labor Day

This was supposed to be a holiday but I worked just the same and no double time.

Tuesday, September 8, 1942
Worked all day and went out to the folks tonight. Grace, Ivana and I went to the show and saw Tracy and family there. Grace had exciting news for me - to go down and hit up wood for a job file wrapping.

Got the job and start to work tomorrow 8: A. M.
I spent some of the day washing and cleaning so I'll have something to wear tomorrow.
Went by the laundry and told Mr. Evan I was going on a defnce job.

Service meeiing. Tracy and kiddies and Ethel were there - Hazel was not feeling well.
All our meeting was about convention. Homer wants to go so bad.
I like the new work quite well and working conditions are much nicer. I ate lunch in Grace's tool room.

Another day and another $4.00 worked out.
I rode out to Manchester and Vermont with Grace and took the F car from there.

I was so tired I could hardly stick the day out - what a strenous week!

Was sick all night and couldn't sleep. 
Went out to the folks and did a wash, cut and washed Ma's hair, also did my own.
W. T. Study tonight.

Monday, September 14, 1942
Rode to Manchester and Normandie with Bob, left my coat and slack suit to be cleaned, then rode home with Grace, ate dinner, back to Brdwy. shopping district, then over to Vermont where I finally got me a pair of backless play shoes that I like. Now it's late and to bed.

Tuesday, September 15, 1942
Service meeting tonight and nearly all about convention.
I went out right from work and looked as bad as I felt, or felt as bad as I lokked. Enjoyed eating dinner at home.

Wednesday, September 16, 1942
Got a check for $21.21 and I needed it. Got a half of ham $2.20 and took out to the folks. I got off the car at Manchester and put on my mag. bag for about 15 min.

Thursday, September 17, 1942
Asked for Fri. and Sat. off and got it and now with dozens of things to do.
I don't know where to start in first. Went out to the folks tonight and rode with Grace, Mabel and Homer. Homer was very anxious to come.

Friday, September 18, 1942
First day of convention!
Grace, Ivana, and Hazel are cahiers. Andrew and Barbara were together all day. Grace brought Homer down and he sat in side through both talks, then in the car until about 8:30.
He didn't seem tired. New Bible released by the W. T. Soc. but I didn't get one.

Saturday, September 19, 1942
Sat in the car a good deal with Homer this afternoon - my feet were swollen and I was terribly tired. 
Got over to the Shrine about 9: A. M. and just in time to leave with Grace to bring Homer and Mother. Drove by the laundry then cleaners.
A new book - "The New World" was released - I got one.

Sunday, September 20, 1942
Convention is over. Homer insisted on going up stairs and it took his wind. 
I hope there are no bad Results. 
A new booklet "Peace - Can it last. All very wonderful. Saw so many familiar faces. All the kiddies seemed to be having a good time.

Monday, September 21, 1942
I rode home with Grace as I've been worried about Homer. He looks rather bad. He coughs and seems tired. Seems thrilled about convention.
Mother had stew which had a familiar taste since stew was served all three days at convention.

Tuesday, September 22, 1942
Ivana picked up Grace and me and I got out at the Manchester - Broadway distict to shop for a slack suit.
I was, and am terribly tired.

Wednesday, September 23, 1942
Well I went to a show tonight and saw "Gone with the Wind."
I rode with Grace to Manchester and Vermont where I shopped for denim slack suit - which I couldn't get, but any way I saw the show and it was restful, at least I was off my feet - the show itself wasn't exactly the restful kind.

Thursday, September 24, 1942
Service meeting! Gretta had a baby girl today at about 2: P. M. We - Grace, Ivana, Mother and I, and saw Marie and Frank and they were very proud and Frank treated to beer and cocktails. 
Clede drove me to the car - we raced a head to Manchester.

Friday, September 25, 1942
I rode out home with Grace, which I shouldn't have done - I meant to come home, clean my room, bath and read my W. T.
Grace drove me to the car to night and again we raced the car to Manchester.
I am terrifically tired.

Saturday, September 26, 1942
Am I going or coming! Rushed home grabed a bite to eat, then out to the folks, and made it by 6:30 and nobody was ready. I could have rushed a little less at least.
Jack, Vonie, Jimmie, Grace, Ivana, and I went to San Pedro in mag. work. I got in 2: Hrs. Jack got Vonie a new pair of shoes 6: B. real good looking.

Sunday, September 27, 1942
Was sick all night didn't get out to the folks until 1: P. M. then washed my hair and washed clothes and had to miss the W. T. study. I must not let that happen again. 
I was too tired Saturday. Didn't even get to visit with Homer.
Missed seeing Andrew.

Monday, September 28, 1942
Worked all day - Rode out with Grace and had dinner, shopped etc. Clede and Jack drove me home. I brought back my laundry which didn't get dry Sun. I'm beginning to feel like a pack mule. I continually have a load. A pack mule or a jack - ass?

Tuesday, September 29, 1942
Rode with Grace, Homer, Ivana and Jack to the Manchester, Broadway district and got a light plug so I can iron.
Got my dinner and cleaned things up then took a bath and to bed at 10:30

Wednesday, September 30, 1942
Rode with Grace to Hoover, then took the bus and rode down to Frank's Cleaners and left my faded blue slack suit, then home.
Got my dinner and ironed. I tried to read the W. T. but I'm so sleepy I can't concentrate.
Tomorrow is pay day and I'll need it.
